#MustReadin2016 Wrap-Up

I'm out of town so will only write a brief post. I'm so glad Carrie Gelsen, from There is a Book for That, organizes this. Here are the books that I finished as part of #MustReadin2016.

 

 

Of these, here are my favorites.

 

Here are the books I did not get to yet. Some are not read because they aren't easily available to me and some because I simply ran out of time. Some will likely end up on my list for 2017.

#MustReadin2016 Update

Thanks to the wonderful Carrie Gelson for hosting this challenge. I started with a list of 54 books this year. By mid-April at our first update, I had read 14. Since then, I have read another 9 for a total of 25. I am more than a little behind schedule, but am chipping away at the list.

 

The standouts for me were Booked, Rhythm Ride, Death by Toilet Paper, Thunderboy Jr. and Last Night I Sang to the Monster. I would say more, but tomorrow is the first day of school and I need to get to sleep so I can be bright-eyed and cheerful in the morning.

Must Read in 2016

Thanks to Carrie Gelson for hosting this challenge. I am late reporting, but last week was jam packed and this slipped past me. Better late than never though, so I am posting anyway. 

This was my original list of 54 titles to read this year:

So far, I have read 14 of them:

My favorite picture book was Homemade Love by bell hooks. It's a lovely book about family love and I am smitten. I wish it wasn't out of print.

The standout nonfiction book was Tricky Vic. I had to admire his ingenuity and ability to con people. 

My favorite adult fiction is a tie with the two Junot Diaz books. The man has a way with words.

From middle grade and young adult books, Tall Story was the best. I enjoyed the development of the sibling relationship.

I've made a dent in the list, but still have 40 books left to read. I think Booked is the next one I want to read. I'm so excited for that one. 

#MustReadin2016

A big thank you to Carrie Gelson for hosting the #MustReadin2016 Challenge. It will help me stay focused on these titles. I went through my "to-read" shelf on Goodreads (1,315 strong) to get some of the titles. Others are because I am trying to read from a few lists. I want to read more of the books that have won the American Indian Youth Literature Award. I also want to read more of the books that have won the Stonewall Award. That will help with another challenge I'm doing - The LGBTQIA Challenge hosted by Alexia at Pretty Deadly Reviews. I'll be going for the Green Level 21-30 books. I may bump it up later, but I am aiming for that to start.

Two of the books are by Junot Diaz and I'm reading those because I will be going to hear him speak in about a month. That reminds me I ought to start them very soon.
