It's Monday! What are you reading?

It's Monday! What are you Reading? is a meme hosted by Kathryn at Book Date. It's a great way to recap what you read and/or reviewed the previous week and to plan out your reading and reviews for the upcoming week. It's also a great chance to see what others are reading right now...you just might discover your next “must-read” book!

Kellee Moye, of Unleashing Readers, and Jen Vincent, of Teach Mentor Texts decided to give It's Monday! What Are You Reading? a kidlit focus. If you read and review books in children's literature - picture books, chapter books, middle grade novels, young adult novels, anything in the world of kidlit - join us! We love this meme and think you will, too. We encourage everyone who participates to visit at least three of the other kidlit book bloggers that link up and leave comments for them.

If you go to my Goodreads account, you can see what I have read recently & click on the books to learn more.

On the Blog:
YA in Podcasts (I loved doing this post)

Last week in books:
The Candle and the Flame by Nafiza Azad is an interesting YA fantasy with a Muslim main character. It was interesting and entertaining. I read it in almost one sitting. The Library Book by Susan Orlean was a unique history of libraries focused around a large unsolved library fire in LA. Clean Getaway by Nic Stone was a lovely road trip middle grade dealing with family, history, and racism. It has many serious moments, but also has plenty of humor. Lulu is a Rhinoceros by Jason Flom is a picture book about a dog who truly believes they are really a rhino and wants to be accepted that way. I think some people are seeing it or talking about it as a book that is about being trans, but no. I don't think this is best used to teach about that.

The Coming Week:
I just started Pachinko and Three Women. I am reading a lot more adult works lately. I love children's and YA, but needed to switch it up a bit.

  1. I'm looking forward to Clean Getaway & am reading a bit more from the adult side too, just bought The Yellow House & won a copy of Lady Clementine - exciting books I think. Thanks for sharing, Crystal!

  4. Lovely titles here - all of them unfamiliar, except for The Library Book which I borrowed from the library when I was still in Singapore, but never really finished reading. :(
