Celebrating Music

Ruth Ayres has a link-up on weekends where people link to posts that are celebrations about their week. I love this reminder to celebrate every week.

I celebrate music. Smile is my one little word for the year. When I am down, lonely, stressed or otherwise not feeling super, music can put a smile right back on my face. Here are some of the songs that can lift me up.

I have the German version of Wicked. I listened to it over and over again before my first visit to Germany. It helped refresh my high school German lessons. At this point, I may know the German lyrics better than the English ones. I came to admire this Elphaba. Willemijn Verkaik is amazing in any language and between her and the song it would be impossible not to smile.

Sometimes a little Bollywood is the perfect smile inducer. If that doesn't work,
I can always try a little K-Pop

If all else fails, I can listen to one of the amusing songs from Hamilton.

Or I can even share a fun song with my students from Putumayo

Do you have songs that make you smile? If so, let me know what they are so I can add to my playlist for those moments I need a lift. Thanks!

  1. I agree that music is transformative. For me, it is the songs we sing - popular songs from the radio - with our music teacher. I walk in the grocery store and hear a song and can hear my children singing it. The association? So happy.

    1. The pop culture of students is fun. The current music can be just the thing if it has personal associations.

  2. This post just confirmed the fact that we are kindred spirits. I hope someday we meet! LOL

  3. I enjoyed hearing all your "happy" songs, Crystal. I don't know the Wicked or Hamilton songs well, but liked what you shared. Amazing that the Elphaba song is in so many languages. And how great that you practiced your German by listening to it in German. What music lifts me up. I love classical music and listen often to Mozart or some operas. And I love the old songs sung by Louis Armstrong or any of the jazz greats of that era.

    1. Willemijn Verkaik has performed the part of Elphaba in four different countries. Wicked has been translated to many languages. I love it. I too enjoy classical and jazz. I will think of you next time I listen to either. :)

  4. I love the diversity of your collection!
I run to a lot of different music, but your typical dance, pop and country.
What makes me smile around the house is when I listen to the iTunes Disney channel :) Love hearing some of the old favorites!

  5. Crystal, smile is such a fun word to guide you this year and these songs certainly are ways to put a smile on your face. The last song is very lively and is one to kickstart my morning.
