It's Monday! What are you reading? is a meme hosted by Sheila at Book Journeys. Jen Vincent over at Teach Mentor Texts and Kellee Moye from Unleashing Readers decided to put a children's and YA spin on it and they invite anyone with an interest to join in. You can participate by creating your post then visit one of their sites to add your site. Finally, visit at least three participant blogs and comment to spread the love.

The Past Week:
The Past Week:
Middle grade came out on top this week. I loved brown girl dreaming and reviewed it over at Rich in Color. I also really enjoyed Kinda Like Brothers. I will review that one soon. Jarrett and Kevon were solid characters in a unique story. Little Elliot Big City is super cute. I actually liked all of the books this week. It was quite a mix of topics and styles.
I also finished reading Celebrating Writers. I look forward to sharing it with the staff at my school. It also energized me to do a bit of my own writing.
The Coming Week:
I will finish up Coldest Girl in Coldtown. I'm reading it via CDs and have one more to go. I am also listening to a memoir by Sue Monk Kidd and her daughter so may get to that. I have the graphic novel Relish coming through interlibrary loan so I might get to it. Otherwise, with school starting, reading will be hit and miss. I hope you have a great week of reading!
You had quite the reading week! I adored Little Elliot! The illustrations were superb! My daughter and I are reading 365 Days of Wonder together, one day at a time! I think it will be really special to finish a year from now!
ReplyDeleteI read 365 days pretty quickly because I was mining for quotes to post in the LMC. I will read it again more slowly. I like your plan.
DeleteI'm interested in Kinda Like Brothers, Crystal, & others you shared. I have Brown Girl Dreaming, still not read, but will soon. Thanks for sharing & hope you have a good week too!
ReplyDeleteYour week certainly was quite a mix! Filled with laughs and tears, I assume.
ReplyDeleteWasn't brown girl dreaming phenomenal? Jacqueline Woodson sure has a way with words!
I'm requesting Little Elliot from my library.
Happy reading this week! :)
Hi Crystal, I am definitely starting Brown Girl Dreaming tonight! Little Elliot seems to be everywhere this week, but there don't seem to be any copies through my library-bummer. I read Celebrating Writers last spring, but I should revisit it, great ideas there.
ReplyDeleteSo much to comment on!! Brown Girl Dreaming is just beautiful, and I LOVED Celebrating Writers! I read Coldest Girl in Coldtown - creepy! Be sure to read Relish - I loved it! I bought the mother/daughter memoir with Sue Monk Kidd, but haven't gotten to it yet. Looking forward to hearing what you think. The Impossible Knife of Memory was so raw and compelling - Laurie Halse Anderson sure can write!! Great reads this week!!
ReplyDeleteI have to finish Coldest Girl before I can get back to the memoir, but I was enjoying it before I paused. ;)
DeleteLots of fun books. I've been meaning to read The Circuit.
ReplyDeleteThe Circuit was in my elementary library and I saw it while I was weeding. It really gives a raw view of the life of migrant workers. It's nice to have short stories because teachers could read just a few of them when teaching a history unit.
DeleteBrown Girl Dreaming sounds so beautiful. Really looking forward to reading it. I borrowed Julia Alvarez' novel last year but didn't get a chance to read it. Hopefully, soon. Hope you're having a great reading week! :)
ReplyDeleteI have Brown Girl Dreaming on my pile! I need to set aside some time in the chaos of the week to read it.
ReplyDeleteAlso - can you tell me how to find the embed code for the We Need Diverse Books button? I'd love to add that to my blog!
