It's Monday! What are you reading?

It's Monday! What are you Reading? is a meme hosted by Kathryn at Book Date. It's a great way to recap what you read and/or reviewed the previous week and to plan out your reading and reviews for the upcoming week. It's also a great chance to see what others are reading right now...you just might discover your next “must-read” book!

Kellee Moye, of Unleashing Readers, and Jen Vincent, of Teach Mentor Texts decided to give It's Monday! What Are You Reading? a kidlit focus. If you read and review books in children's literature - picture books, chapter books, middle grade novels, young adult novels, anything in the world of kidlit - join us! We love this meme and think you will, too. We encourage everyone who participates to visit at least three of the other kidlit book bloggers that link up and leave comments for them.

If you want to know more about what I've been reading, visit my Goodreads shelf.

The Past Week on the Blog:

Where To? (A post about YA books involving travel)

The Past Week in Books:
Kindergarten - Second Grade:  My Heart Fills With Happiness by Monique Gray Smith illustrated by Julie Flett (for Global Read Aloud)
Kindergarten - Tougi the Toad Finds His Smile by Gaonou Thao illustrated by Sally Johnson

Third grade -  The Rooster Who Would Not Be Quiet by Carmen Agra Deedy illustrated by Eugen Yelchin
Fourth grade - The Raven and the Loon by Rachel Qitsualik-Tinsley, Sean Qitsualik-Tinsley illustrated by Kim Smith
Fifth grade - The Artist Who Painted a Blue Horse by Eric Carle

I finished reading Bruja Born (sequel to Labyrinth Lost) by Zoraida Córdova in preparation for seeing her at a local library. She had a wonderful presentation and was great with the young people.

I really enjoy watching Trevor Noah and finally got his book Born a Crime. I'd been on the waiting list for quite a while. It was funny and eye-opening about some aspects of South Africa.

I was happy to discover some names that were new to me in Brazen. This is an interesting collection of women. I'm not sure that I always liked the way the stories were presented, but I was happy to meet new people that haven't had as much said about them as some others in the world.
The Coming Week: I just started reading There There by Tommy Orange. It's certainly intriguing so far. I have quite a few books on my shelf this week, but will be most likely to read How I Resist and This Will Be My Undoing.

  4. A writer friend showed me a copy of Brazen - now I really super want to get my hands on it. I think it will be perfect for our upcoming 2019 reading theme as we do A Year Of Women Reading Women. :)
