It's Monday! What are you reading?

It's Monday! What are you Reading? is a meme hosted by Kathryn at Book Date. It's a great way to recap what you read and/or reviewed the previous week and to plan out your reading and reviews for the upcoming week. It's also a great chance to see what others are reading right now...you just might discover your next “must-read” book!

Kellee Moye, of Unleashing Readers, and Jen Vincent, of Teach Mentor Texts decided to give It's Monday! What Are You Reading? a kidlit focus. If you read and review books in children's literature - picture books, chapter books, middle grade novels, young adult novels, anything in the world of kidlit - join us! We love this meme and think you will, too. We encourage everyone who participates to visit at least three of the other kidlit book bloggers that link up and leave comments for them.

If you want to know more about what I've been reading, visit my Goodreads shelf.

Last Week:

These are the books I enjoyed the most from this past week. With the Fire on High was just the kind of book I like - meaningful and full of food. The Gentleman's Guide to Vice and Virtue is an adventure filled YA historical fiction. It's very entertaining. Opposite of Always is sweet and funny and also a bit sad. I Think You're Wrong (But I'm Listening) was helpful to me. It's written by two friends who have a political podcast. One of them is conservative and one is liberal. Their focus is on trying to be able to listen and empathize with people who you think may believe the complete opposite of you. This does not include hate-filled people who are inciting violence. No false equivalencies for them. They are trying to look for the nuance within issues. I found it interesting and have started listening to their podcast and have enjoyed it. Lubna and Pebble made me cry and Harold and Hog Pretend for Real! made me laugh.

The Coming Week:

I started reading My Name is Not Chief and will likely start the latest Maurene Goo book.

  1. Some of these are already on my want to read list. I Think You're Wrong (But I'm Listening) sounds interesting. I have a few friends who I like, but we see politics differently. I admit that sometimes the conversations can get very excited.

  2. I don't know why I haven't given The Gentleman's Guide to Vice and Virtue a chance, yet. I guess I wasn't drawn to the cover, but I just saw it available at one of my libraries this last week and thought about grabbing it. After your mention of it, I think I'll put it back on my list. I'm excited to get copies of Lubna and Pebble and Harold and Hog -- they both look great! Have a wonderful reading week, Crystal!
