It's Monday! What are you reading?

It's Monday! What are you Reading? is a meme hosted by Kathryn at Book Date. It's a great way to recap what you read and/or reviewed the previous week and to plan out your reading and reviews for the upcoming week. It's also a great chance to see what others are reading right now...you just might discover your next “must-read” book!

Kellee Moye, of Unleashing Readers, and Jen Vincent, of Teach Mentor Texts decided to give It's Monday! What Are You Reading? a kidlit focus. If you read and review books in children's literature - picture books, chapter books, middle grade novels, young adult novels, anything in the world of kidlit - join us! We love this meme and think you will, too. We encourage everyone who participates to visit at least three of the other kidlit book bloggers that link up and leave comments for them.

If you go to my Goodreads account, you can see what I have read recently & click on the books to learn more.

Last week in reading:

Yay! I finally finished the YA graphic novel A Map to the Sun. It was okay, but since it took me several weeks to read it, obviously it wasn't a favorite.

The Boy in the Back of the Class is a nice middle grade book about how a group of students respond when a refugee joins their class. I liked a lot about the book, but didn't like that TinTin was a favorite of the main character and is referenced often. So much of TinTin is racist.

The Coming Week:
I'm reading another Saadia Faruqi book, A Thousand Questions and will be reading more ARCs like The Barren Grounds and Class Act. Have a great week filled with reading.

  1. I'm looking forward to reading Where Wonder Grows. I loved Adriana M. Garcia's artwork in All Around Us, so I imagine it'll be equally delightful! I've been wondering about The Boy in the Back of the Class (and thanks for the mention of TinTin). Hope you have a great reading week, Crystal!

  3. I have Class Act, too, & want to start it soon! I don't know A Thousand Questions, will check it out, Crystal. I'll also look at some of the picture books that are new to me. Thanks!

  4. I know the feeling of finishing a book you weren't enjoying but that you wanted to have read. But you also had a lot of fun books this week.

  5. I enjoyed The Boy at the Back of the Class and have never read any TinTin, so I missed any racist overtones. It's good to know now. I hope you enjoy Barren Ground. I'm looking forward to reading Class Act.
