Last week in reading:
Yay! I finally finished the YA graphic novel A Map to the Sun. It was okay, but since it took me several weeks to read it, obviously it wasn't a favorite.
All of the picture books were great: Where Wonder Grows, Sometimes People March, Jabari Tries, My Rainbow, She Was the First: the Trailblazing Life of Shirley Chisolm, and Ocean Speaks: Marie Tharp and the Map that Moved the Earth.
The Boy in the Back of the Class is a nice middle grade book about how a group of students respond when a refugee joins their class. I liked a lot about the book, but didn't like that TinTin was a favorite of the main character and is referenced often. So much of TinTin is racist.
The Coming Week:
I'm reading another Saadia Faruqi book, A Thousand Questions and will be reading more ARCs like The Barren Grounds and Class Act. Have a great week filled with reading.

DeleteI know the feeling of finishing a book you weren't enjoying but that you wanted to have read. But you also had a lot of fun books this week.
ReplyDeleteI enjoyed The Boy at the Back of the Class and have never read any TinTin, so I missed any racist overtones. It's good to know now. I hope you enjoy Barren Ground. I'm looking forward to reading Class Act.
