#MustReadin2017 Update

The #MustReadin2017 is a reading challenge led by Carrie Gelson at There is a Book for That. I enjoy being part of the group of readers setting and aiming for their own unique reading goals. Back in January, I chose 24 books

I missed the first update, but did manage to create a fall update post sharing some of my favorites of the year at the time. At that point I only had three books left to read. I had to purchase Shine to read it since it wasn't even available via ILL for me, but I didn't mind buying it. The only one I wasn't able to read is American Road Trip, but the publishing date has been moved to 2018, so I'll push it to my next list.

This is a fun way to make sure that I read some specific books each year so I look forward to participating again. Since I was on a picture book award committee, this list was helpful in keeping me reading YA and adult titles. I'm starting to contemplate next year's list already and will post about that on January 2nd.

#MustReadin2017

#MustReadin2017

Thanks to Carrie Gelson at There is a Book for That, I have read quite a few titles from my TBR. I appreciate this reading challenge she offers each year.

At the beginning of the year I chose the 24 titles pictured above. So far I've been able to read 21 of them (all but the last three in the image above). I enjoyed every single one of them so far. Some of the standouts have been:

Want - a fabulous sci-fi by Cindy Pon set in Taipei
When Dimple Met Rishi - a lovely romance by Sandhya Menon
Amina's Voice - a sweet middle grade book by Hena Khan about family, community, and being yourself
Bad Feminist - an excellent nonfiction collection of essays by Roxane Gay about feminism
Juliet Takes a Breath - by Gabby Rivera, this novel shows us an awesome human learning, growing and making mistakes.
Here We Are: Feminism for the Real World - Kelly Jensen collected a very diverse and interesting set of essays and other creative formats that share various aspects of feminism.

Of the final books, I will likely read the Misty Copeland book, but Shine is not available through my library or inter-library loan and the publication date for American Road Trip has been pushed to 2018, so I likely won't get to that one. Setting my goal a little lower this year has paid off. :)

#MustReadin2017

Carrie Gelson, from There is a Book for That, hosts this wonderful reading challenge. She has created a space for a reading community to gather and share the books they would like to read this year.

I participated in 2016 and 2015. In 2016 I did not get through all of the books so a few of them are on the list for 2017. I have also made the choice to keep my list to 24. I know I will read many, many more than that, but I am keeping this list to the ones I really don't want to miss. Here they are:

I'm excited to get started. I wish you a wonderful year filled with reading.
