Kellee Moye, of Unleashing Readers, and Jen Vincent, of Teach Mentor Texts decided to give It's Monday! What Are You Reading? a kidlit focus. If you read and review books in children's literature - picture books, chapter books, middle grade novels, young adult novels, anything in the world of kidlit - join us! We love this meme and think you will, too. We encourage everyone who participates to visit at least three of the other kidlit book bloggers that link up and leave comments for them.
Last Week on the Blog:
Last Week in Books:
I just got home from a road trip to see my son sing at his university for the winter concert. That means I had a great day, but no time to talk about the books. I read many books this week and those I posted above were the best of the bunch so I would recommend any of them. :)
For Next Week:
I have a bit of a time crunch so I am not sure how much reading I will accomplish this week. I will still attempt to read a few of my MustReadin2016 books like Soul Enchilada. Happy reading!
Reading Challenge Updates:
Goodreads Challenge - 549/550
Diversity on the Shelf 2016 - 247/225 (goal = 50% of my books by and/or about POC)
LGBTQIA Challenge - 35/31
ReadPOC Challenge - 171/125
#MustReadin2016 - 33/54
Nonfiction Picture Book Challenge - 89/100
I've seen If I Was Your Girl in several book stores and have been somewhat curious, but haven't picked it up. I saw a review that said it was similar to Gone Girl and that makes me hesitate.
ReplyDeleteI haven't read Gone Girl so I couldn't speak to that. If I Was Your Girl is about a transgender young woman who has moved to another location because she was unsafe at her previous high school. She is starting fresh where nobody knows her past.
DeleteI noted some of your books that are new to me. I enjoyed Hotel Bruce, story and illustrations! Glad you got to go to hear your son's concert. That's very special!
ReplyDeleteIsn't Radiant Child gorgeous!?
ReplyDeleteIf I was your girl looks like a powerful book. Thanks to you and Carrie Gelson here, I've added Radiant Child to my list of holds.
ReplyDeleteI liked Radiant Child, but I didn't agree with the decision to not include any of the artist's original work (even in the Author's Note).
ReplyDeleteI thought the same thing Katie. I ended up going online to search for some of his work because I was unfamiliar. It would have been nice to at least have one or two of his most famous works.
DeleteI cannot wait to read Hotel Bruce! I saw it at NCTE, and I know I must have it!
ReplyDeleteHappy reading this week :)
Soul Enchilada sounds yummylicious. Great titles here.
ReplyDeleteI can't look at the title without wanting to grab a red pen. If I WERE Your Girl! Argh! Hotel Bruce looks like fun. I'm glad that my daughter decided NOT to play clarinet at college because I don't have to make road trips and go to more concerts. Never a fan of those, so you are brave!
