It's Monday! what are you reading?

It's Monday! What are you Reading? is a meme hosted by Kathryn at Book Date. It's a great way to recap what you read and/or reviewed the previous week and to plan out your reading and reviews for the upcoming week. It's also a great chance to see what others are reading right now...you just might discover your next “must-read” book!

Kellee Moye, of Unleashing Readers, and Jen Vincent, of Teach Mentor Texts decided to give It's Monday! What Are You Reading? a kidlit focus. If you read and review books in children's literature - picture books, chapter books, middle grade novels, young adult novels, anything in the world of kidlit - join us! We love this meme and think you will, too. We encourage everyone who participates to visit at least three of the other kidlit book bloggers that link up and leave comments for them.

If you want to know more about what I've been reading, visit my Goodreads shelf.

Last Week on the Blog:

#ClassroomBookaday

Kindergarteners enjoyed Saturday is Swimming Day. They especially enjoyed laying on the ground being starfish.

First graders read Night Job.

Second grade read The Rough Patch. It's a tear-jerker.

Reading at Home

I read two books from my #MustReadin2019 list. First, Marcus Vega Doesn't Speak Spanish. It's a great middle grade book about family. Even This Page is White is a collection of poems about race. Sometimes I wasn't sure if I was understanding, but I'm glad I read it and there are some gems in there to get you thinking. I finished listening to Rich People Problems which was super fun. Kick it, Mo! is cute and will be popular with my students. Memphis, Martin, and the Mountaintop was a close look at the sanitation strike that Martin Luther King Jr. was supporting right before he was killed. Finally, I read Fresh Ink today. It's a fabulous diverse collection of short stories. I laughed, cried, and had plenty to think about. I was also very entertained.

The Coming Week: I'm reading Becoming right now and will be start All the Stars Denied soon to review next week on Rich in Color. Both are from my #MustReadin2019 list. I also bought What if It's Us so will likely start that too. Have a great week!

  1. Fresh Ink is one of my favorite anthologies! I am glad you liked it as well.
Alice Faye Duncan is such a reliable author; I adored Memphis, Martin, and the Mountaintop.
Marcus Vega is on my must read in 2019 list--I can't wait!

Happy reading this week, and happy new year!

  2. Tissues definitely required for The Rough Patch. I love Kick it, Mo and the other books in the series. I enjoyed Marcus Vega Doesn't Speak Spanish, but the authors previous book, The Epic Fail of Arturo Zamora is my favorite.

  3. Congratulations on getting a jump start on your #MustReadin2019 list. I remmber Marcus Vega Doesn't Speak Spanish being deeper and more painful than I expected. I also finished Fresh Ink this week (I was glad for the Foreword that many will need to hear). I looked up Becoming just last week to see if I could get on the "holds" list and it said there are 7 copies and 145 holds already! :-O I might expect this in a huge metropolis, but in our tiny area it was quite a shock. LOL I may just have to purchase a copy of that for my home library. Have a wonderful week, Crystal!

  4. I finished Night Job last week. I am sure it will be one of the most beautiful picture books I read this year - if I can remember it next December. I just added Fresh Ink to my list a couple of days ago. I'm reading What if It's Us right now and enjoying it mostly. It is slow. Happy reading this week!
