It's Monday! What are you reading?

It's Monday! What are you Reading? is a meme hosted by Kathryn at Book Date. It's a great way to recap what you read and/or reviewed the previous week and to plan out your reading and reviews for the upcoming week. It's also a great chance to see what others are reading right now...you just might discover your next “must-read” book!

Kellee Moye, of Unleashing Readers, and Jen Vincent, of Teach Mentor Texts decided to give It's Monday! What Are You Reading? a kidlit focus. If you read and review books in children's literature - picture books, chapter books, middle grade novels, young adult novels, anything in the world of kidlit - join us! We love this meme and think you will, too. We encourage everyone who participates to visit at least three of the other kidlit book bloggers that link up and leave comments for them.

If you want to know more about what I've been reading, visit my Goodreads shelf.

The Past Week on the Blog:
The Past Week in Books:
What If... by Samantha Berger, illuatrated by Mike Curato
We Don't Eat Our Classmates by Ryan T. Higgins
The Day You Begin by Jacqueline Woodson illustrated by Rafael L
The Big Umbrella co-written by Amy June Bates and Juniper Bates

I finally finished An American Marriage. The audio was a little annoying, but it was my only option if I wanted to read it for our Battle of the Books competition coming up at the end of the week. The story is intense and a heart-breaker. It's one I'm glad I read though. The 57 Bus is also intense. These were both on our Battle list and both worth the read.
Another book I read (as a re-read) for Battle was The Birchbark House. I love this book of family and survival.

Finally, I read the Digital ARC (via Netgalley) of American Road Trip (another #MustReadin2018 book) which comes out next week. I loved Patrick Scott-Flores' book Jumped In, so I was really looking forward to this one. It did not disappoint. I'll review it later this week for Rich in Color.

The Coming Week: I'm re-reading The Latehomecomer by Kao Kalia Yang because she will be in town later this week and it's also the monthly pick for our neighborhood book club. I have her book The Song Poet too, so may get to that. I'm also re-reading American Panda for our battle on Friday. I hope you have a great week!

  1. I am glad I'm not the only one who found the audio of An American Marriage annoying. The way some men narrate women's voices *shudder*.

  2. Glad to hear about the audio of An American Marriage. I don't read a lot of adult titles, but this one has come up repeatedly and I've wanted to read it. Also went looking for 57 Bus in my library last week, but left empty handed. I'll get to it eventually. Your Battle of the Books competition sounds intense! I wish I could get into something like that locally. Have a wonderful week, Crystal!

  3. I wrote my MustRead early last week and then promptly forgot about it. I will have to finish it sometime today!
I'm looking forward to finding and reading The Day You Begin. I'll read anything by Jacqueline Woodson and am a fan of Rafael López' art.

  4. I sure want to read The 57 Bus, someday! Among the others, I see you read The Red Umbrella, which I adored, & bought it. There are so many books about inclusion that I hope teachers are sharing. Thanks, Crystal!

  5. Your classroom book a day books make me smile! What a great idea to have that on the blog. If I remember I will have to add that to my next post! I love to see what people are reading. It seems at the moment that we are all reading many of the same books, I wonder if that will change as the year goes on.

  6. I have been meaning to re-read The Birchbark House before I read the sequels. I read Game of Silence but none of the others and feel like I need to start over so I can remember all the details.

  7. I've heard a lot of things about the 57 bus, so I asked our librarians to purchase a copy. I also included What If and The Big Umbrella. I own a copy of The Birchbark House but haven't had a chance to read it yet - there's a sequel if I am not mistaken.
