It's Monday! What are you reading?

It's Monday! What are you reading? is a meme hosted by Sheila at Book Journeys. Jen Vincent over at Teach Mentor Texts and Kellee Moye from Unleashing Readers decided to put a children's and YA spin on it and they invite anyone with an interest to join in. You can participate by creating your post then visit one of their sites to add your site. Finally, visit at least three participant blogs and comment to spread the love.

If you want to know more about what I am reading, visit me at my Goodreads shelfImages via Goodreads unless otherwise noted.
The Past Week:
Picture Books

Non-fiction

Young Adult

Adult

The books that really grabbed me this week were King for a Day, The First Drawing, Langston's Train Ride, Saying Goodbye, When I Was the Greatest, March, and Akata Witch. I reviewed Akata Witch here. Chew on This will stay with me for a long time as it completely grossed me out. It's the children's version of Fast Food Nation. Ick.

The Coming Week:
I will finish First They Killed My Father. Then, I will start House of Purple Cedar by Tim Tingle. After that I have Killer of Enemies, Port Chicago 50, My Basmati Bat Mitzvah and a few others waiting on the shelf. I am not sure which I will get to, but it should be fun figuring it out. What will you be reading?

  1. Langston's Train Ride was such a great book. I will read anything and everything about Langston Hughes though. He is my favorite poet. :)

    1. He's my favorite poet also. I will read just about anything by him or about him. ;)

  2. So many great titles. I read Half Broke Horses in the summer - what a story. I really liked the book The First Drawing as well. Such a fantastic title and so intriguing for children.

    1. I would think that The First Drawing would inspire quite a bit of discussion. Jeanette Walls has quite an interesting family.

  5. Hi there Crystal, your layout is nice! Different from your usual Goodreads screenshots! Langston's Train Ride caught my eye. I've read A Game for Swallows a few months back and found it to be a truly powerful read. The color scheme is wonderful too. :) I own Son of a Witch by Gregory Maguire but was fairly disappointed with Wicked - it's a title that I had to force myself to finish. Hopefully the rest of the novels in the series aren't as laborious a read.

    1. Yes, A Game for Swallows was excellent. The author has another one coming out later this year called I Remember Beirut. I'm eager to see that one. I abandoned Son of a Witch the first time, but did enjoy it on audio this time. It still took me a while to get into the story though. I liked Wicked better the second time I read it. They are quite an unusual flavor of books.
