The Lion the Witch and the Wardrobe was wonderful in the BBC version and in the newer movie and I liked them both for different reasons. I also enjoyed both the BBC version of Pride and Prejudice and the more recent U.S. version - again for different reasons.
My favorite movie adaptation of Treasure Island is, of course, the one done with The Muppets.
I had two other books up there for adult, but after sleeping on it, I decided they weren't all that great so I am back to eight.
What do you think are the best movie adaptations of literature? Do you have any more to add?
Good list, I loved Harry Potter, Hunger Games, Princess Bride, Princess Diaries, Narina, Howls Moving Castle and Much ado About Nothing as well.
ReplyDeleteThere are so many fun ones for children and young adults. Much Ado is one of my favorite movies of all time. Emma Thompson and Kenneth B. were fantastic.
DeleteDon't forget Holes! Love the book, but Susan Sarandon and Jon Voigt do a great job in the movie. (The other actors do to, but they really stand out.)

ReplyDeleteI realized while I was making the list that there are many movies I haven't watched that have been made out of some books I love. I may have to check them out.

Yes, I think Princess Bride is one where the movie wins. I think that is only because I have watched it so many more times than I have read it.

ReplyDeleteI wasn't very keen on The Golden Compass, unfortunately. I think I just love the book too much!
I did like The Golden Compass better in book format too, but I still enjoyed the movie.

Definitely a lot I agree with on this list (LOTR, Narnia, P&P). I'm kind of in the middle on Golden Compass. The movie had so much potential and gorgeous visuals, but wasn't quite there (I blame the studio after reading all about the controversy over the film) - I don't think it is one of the worst adaptations, though. Of course, the book is incredible.

The Golden Compass is the one that most people had a problem with. If I was doing the list again, I agree that Hiles was the better pick between those two. I really loved
